Merton 20mph Speed Limit – Everywhere?

Here in Merton Park Ward we’ve had a 20 mph speed limit on our residential roads for 10 years now, so motorists have had time to get used to the idea, even if they’re not always fully observant of it in practice.

But now 20 mph is to be the speed limit for ALL roads in our area, major as well as minor.  That includes Morden Road, Kingston Road, Martin Way and even Bushey Road.  In fact all roads in the borough south of the SWR main line out of Waterloo are covered. See the full map here

Signage and road markings will change to show the new 20 mph limit, but at this stage, no additional traffic calming is proposed.  At the time of writing, the statutory consultation 6th – 27th September, was yet to commence but when it goes live you  can respond directly on the council’s website.

Neighbourhood Recycling Centres

Merton Council are holding a consultation on use of the Neighbourhood Recycling Centres (NRC)

The NRC’s provide a central point for residents to recycle materials such as paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, cans and plastic bottles, etc at 14 locations across Merton. But were introduced at a time when doorstep collections recycling were not available.

Therefore the council is consulting residents about what they think of the mixed recycling bins at all of these Neighbourhood Recycling Centres.  It takes the form of a short survey that should only take a few minutes to complete, note however the consultation closes on 2nd August 2019.

Dorset Rd New Traffic Island

On Monday 1st July FM Conway will start work to install a traffic island in Dorset Road, just south of the junction with Sheridan Road.

This may come as a surprise to many of you as the initial consultation was not wide-spread, with notices only going out to those properties who would lose parking bays.

However MPWIR are very much in support of the crossing and we have been pressing for this since last year, in response to residents’ concerns.  Continue reading “Dorset Rd New Traffic Island”
