Merton Community Involvement Consultation

Merton Council Logo

We know that Merton Park Resident’s like to have their say, in particular about planning issues.  Certainly the recent decision to not no longer publish planning representations online has caused dismay.

The ‘Draft Statement of Community Involvement Consultation’ is a great way to make your feeling known about how the Council consult on planning issues and how they make sure that what are often complex drawings and documents are accessible to all.

This consultation closes on the 8th of December so do hurry and make your voice heard before then!

Back to the Future – Merton?

The Future Merton team at Merton Council has announced that it has been awarded £54.5 million from the GLA to help towards funding the Morden Regeneration scheme and so it is looking to procure a development partner in 2020/21. Yes, this may seem like déjà vu and so forgive me if I don’t get too excited by the news.

As our timeline shows, Future Merton have repeatedly announced that they are looking for a development partner, even going so far as to spend £7000 sending council Leader Stephen Alambritis to the South of France, in the height of Summer, to find one. Why Another Green Initiative?

There are loads of great organisations asking people to be greener and petitions urging council and government to do more. Pictures of littered beaches and wildlife surround by plastic is distressing, but it can be difficult to appreciate how it affects you directly and how you can make a difference.

This is about all of us doing something at a grass-roots level. Making a difference to your immediate environment and making small changes to your own habits will eventually scale up to effect a wider cause. Continue reading “Why Another Green Initiative?”

What is our Green Initiative?

We are asking people to take part in our 30 day Green Habit Challenge by choosing 1 or 2 green initiatives that they would find easy to do for 30 days. (With a view to their actions becoming longer terms habits.)

Download a pledge sheet with daily chart to help you! Encourage others to get involved by commenting on posts on this page and sharing hints, tip or useful links. And of course let us know how your challenge is going!

Listed below are just a few green actions, but we would love to hear what YOU could do and would be willing to pledge. Continue reading “What is our Green Initiative?”

Merton 20mph Speed Limit – Everywhere?

Here in Merton Park Ward we’ve had a 20 mph speed limit on our residential roads for 10 years now, so motorists have had time to get used to the idea, even if they’re not always fully observant of it in practice.

But now 20 mph is to be the speed limit for ALL roads in our area, major as well as minor.  That includes Morden Road, Kingston Road, Martin Way and even Bushey Road.  In fact all roads in the borough south of the SWR main line out of Waterloo are covered. See the full map here

Signage and road markings will change to show the new 20 mph limit, but at this stage, no additional traffic calming is proposed.  At the time of writing, the statutory consultation 6th – 27th September, was yet to commence but when it goes live you  can respond directly on the council’s website.

Neighbourhood Recycling Centres

Merton Council are holding a consultation on use of the Neighbourhood Recycling Centres (NRC)

The NRC’s provide a central point for residents to recycle materials such as paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, cans and plastic bottles, etc at 14 locations across Merton. But were introduced at a time when doorstep collections recycling were not available.

Therefore the council is consulting residents about what they think of the mixed recycling bins at all of these Neighbourhood Recycling Centres.  It takes the form of a short survey that should only take a few minutes to complete, note however the consultation closes on 2nd August 2019.

Take the survey

Dorset Rd New Traffic Island

On Monday 1st July FM Conway will start work to install a traffic island in Dorset Road, just south of the junction with Sheridan Road.

This may come as a surprise to many of you as the initial consultation was not wide-spread, with notices only going out to those properties who would lose parking bays.

However MPWIR are very much in support of the crossing and we have been pressing for this since last year, in response to residents’ concerns.  Continue reading “Dorset Rd New Traffic Island”
