In July 2019, Merton Councillors unanimously agreed to declare a climate emergency with the aim of making Merton carbon neutral by 2050.
The council will also work towards de-carbonising their own buildings and services by 2030.
However the truth of the matter is that over 90% of emissions in the borough come from transport and residents homes, taking much of the control out of the Council’s hands and into our own if we are to meet these targets.
So the council need and want your feedback asap! Consultation runs until 16th December. Follow the links and help form the first ever Merton Climate Emergency Action Plan!

To help get you started we have created a 30 day Green Habit Challenge download sheet. (also in word) Fill in your green pledge, state your guilty pleasure and note your motivation. In addition there are two, 30 day charts so you can tick off your progress. Don’t forget to let us know you have taken up the challenge, we would love to hear about your experiences!
There are loads of great organisations asking people to be greener and petitions urging council and government to do more. Pictures of littered beaches and wildlife surround by plastic is distressing, but it can be difficult to appreciate how it affects you directly and how you can make a difference.
This is about all of us doing something at a grass-roots level. Making a difference to your immediate environment and making small changes to your own habits will eventually scale up to effect a wider cause. Continue reading “Why Another Green Initiative?”
