Time to Re-discover Merton’s Heritage…
The annual Heritage Discovery Day is a popular free showcase for Merton’s colourful past.
The Discovery Day will take place at Morden Library and Merton Civic Centre between 12 and 4.30pm on Saturday 21 August.
2021 highlights will include the opportunity to take a selfie with the FA Cup and footballing heroes of Wimbledon FC’s 1963 and 1988 cup winning squads, plus a chance for football fans to meet Wandle and Haydon Womble.
Displays will mark the 150th anniversary of Wimbledon Common, celebrate Mitcham’s historic fair and feature wartime combatants and life during the interwar years.
Local history talks will cover Merton Park Film Studios, the history of Colliers Wood, exciting developments at Canons House and a screening of a new documentary about London’s postal workers.
Youngsters can try their hand at the historic art of block printing; or win a prize in a heritage colouring competition.
Author Clive Whichelow will be signing his local history books. There will be stalls from Merton museums and community groups. Plus, a special self-guided heritage trail around Merton Park.
