As part of the Merton Heritage Discovery Day 2020 events, local Councillor Dickie Wilkinson in collaboration with Merton Heritage officer, Sarah Gould, have put together a Merton Park Heritage Trail
30 historical images of Merton Park have been posted all around the ward in shop windows, on lamp posts, resident’s gateposts and trees for you to ‘happen upon’ as you take a healthy jog, walk the dog or simply stroll along to collect you morning newspaper.
Dickie has informed us that the numbers assigned to the images do not necessarily follow on location wise so if you spot one in the street don’t assume the next number will be close by!
The aim is to both encourage getting out and about for daily exercise while appreciating the abundant local history that our neighbourhood offers.
However, for those of you who like to plan your journey or simply want to make sure you discover all 30 of the images you can download a Merton Park Heritage Trail map with thumbnail images here.
We would also like to thank the following local businesses for allowing us to display posters in their shops and offices: (and gives you hint where you will find some of the images).
Cooperative Funeral Care, London Road
Turners Estate Agents, London Road
Morden Dry Cleaners, Crown Road
The Leather Bottle, Kingston Road
Tennisons Property, Kingston Road
Bonfleur, Kingston Road
Merton Civic Centre
The trail will be on display until the 10th October,
