You can find out details of the election results, both for the Ward and for Merton Council, in the 2010 election item on the left.

Our Merton Park Ward Independent Residents (MPWIR) councillors really are independent. An article in the Wimbledon Guardian on 13 May suggested they had “pledged to support Labour”. To read Councillor Peter Southgate’s letter to the paper to put the story straight, click here.

During the election, our first campaign leaflet and our second campaign leaflet gave details of our Independent candidates - what they have done in the last four years and, having listened to local residents, what they propose to do in the future.

Just before the election a letter was circulated to some Ward residents in which the MP for Wimbledon attacked the record of our Independent Councillors. We felt these were quite unjustified. You can read how our email alert refuted his comments.

Plans for a Council Tax refund voted down in Council

In 2010 Independent Councillors combined with other opposition councillors to throw out a motion to pay each Council Tax payer £25 out of reserves, with the prospect of a further £25 for the following three years. This was a Labour manifesto commitment. It was equally a manifesto commitment of the Merton Park Ward Independent Residents to be vigilant insuring Merton's finances are well-managed.
